Changing the Default Look & Feel in AutoTag

Windward's AutoTag comes with a feature that automatically changes the look and feel of the program around certain holidays like Halloween, the Winter and Summer solstice, and Valentine's Day.  While these skins can be fun and provide a nice change in routine, some people find them distracting.  There is a setting in AutoTag's options that you can set to stop showing these holiday-themed skins.

Via the Options Menu

With Word, Excel, or PowerPoint open, go to the AutoTag Manager tab and click the "Options" button.

Under the "Standard" tab, open the "Skin" drop-down menu and choose a new skin.  You can preview the different skins by simply clicking on them.

You've now set a new look and feel for AutoTag!  This will be the skin you'll see in all versions of AutoTag (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and it will not change on its own.  You can change it back anytime by selecting the "{default}" skin from the drop-down menu.

Via the Registry

You can also change this setting in the registry.  If you are installing AutoTag on a client's machine as part of an OEM package, you may want to set this registry entry during installation.  Here's how to do it manually using the regedit utility:

  1. Go to the registry entry "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Windward Studios\Auto Tag", right click on it, and choose new -> string value
  2. If there are 2 autotag directories listed use the first one that has this folder structure below it:
    Auto Tag
  3. Give the value name: "skin"
  4. Double-click on the new value and give the value data: "Office 2007 Blue" (or any other skin you want to make the default)

The default skin has now been changed to the new value.  To change it back, simply delete the "skin" value name from the registry.
