IF Function

Overview

The IF function checks whether a condition is met and returns 1 value.  If the statement is TRUE, it returns one value; if FALSE, it returns another value.

Syntax

You can type in your own statement and returned value, or use the Equation Wizard to help you create both a statement and value to be returned.

There are 3 types of statements, and each is required for the IF equation.

  • Logical_test
    • An expression that can evaluate to TRUE or FALSE
  • Value_if_true
    • This is the value that is returned if Logical_text is TRUE
  • Value_if_false
    • This is the value that is returned if Logical_text is FALSE
