AutoTag keeps losing data source connection information

Microsoft recently released a service pack that introduce a bug into Word. This bug corrupted data stored with a Word document which includes AutoTag storing the data source and variables with a template.

Please go to Microsoft KB970942  and request the hotfix download  (upper left corner of the page). Microsoft will then email you a link and password.

We recommend that everyone using AutoTag apply this hotfix. It will be part of the next Office service pack so once that service pack is made available, this issue should go away for good.

Please note that if you have a template with corrupted info for the stored data source, it will still be corrupted after you apply this hotfix because the data was corrupted when Word saved the file. You will have to set the data source one more time and save the file. Then it will be good.

****UPDATE:  Microsoft has rolled all updates into one Compatibility Service Pack or MS Office located here:

****UPDATE 2:  If you are unsuccessful with the above steps you may want to apply Microsoft's 'optional' fix for MS Word 2007. It is KB974561 and we have had many users reporting that it fixed the problem of not being able to save connection profiles with the word document.
