How to use Variables in AutoTag Max

How to use Variables in AutoTag Max.

AutoTag Max comes in 2 menu modes.  Variable creation/design mode and AutoTag Max (variable preparation) mode.

When you first start AutoTag your menu will look like this:

You will see the data section and you can use the “Map & Views” option under “Data Setup” to add variables and static values to your document.  I recommend you add one static value for each variable so you can build tags off this variable using the tag editor and actually see results back when you evaluate it.

Create your variables by adding maps to your data sources.

Once you are finished entering your variables, you will need to change your menu into AutoTag Max mode.

This will require a restart of Microsoft Word/Excel/Powerpoint as Microsoft has not given a way to dynamically update a menu ribbon on the fly.   ****UPDATE***  A restart is no longer required for version of MS Office 2007 and above.

Now after restarting your office application you should now see the AutoTag Max options on the ribbon.

To switch back to design mode, you can set you AutoTag menu back to design.

The "Maps and Views" section has moved to the "Parameters" button under the "Report Manager" tab.

To change your menu to AutoTag Max mode you will need to click on the "Options" button under the "Options Section" in the "Report Manager" tab.

Once the "Options" menu is open click on the "Advanced" tab and then make your selection from the "Menu".  Description of options is listed in the image below.

Use "Design" mode to create variables and assign static values to be used in tags in the template.  Use "AutoTag Max" mode to be prompted for previously defined variables when running templates.
