Installing Excel Connector
Note: the following only applies to Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2003, and Windows Server 2008. It may or may not work on other Microsoft operating systems. It will now work for non-Microsoft operating systems.
What you have to do to install the Excel connector depends on the type of Excel file you would like to use as a data source.
*.xls, *.csv (Pre-Office 2007 Excel formats)
These formats use the Jet driver which is automatically installed with Microsoft operating systems
*.xlsx, *.xlsb, *.xlsm (Office 2007 Excel formats)
These formats use the Ace driver, which can be obtained in either one of the following two ways:
- Automatically installed with Office 2007, or
- Install the "2007 Office System Driver: Data Connectivity Components", which as of 8/25/2009 can be found at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=7554F536-8C28-4598-9B72-EF94E038C891&displaylang=en.
After installation, you will have to close all copies of Word/Excel/Powerpoint and re-open them.
In the "Data Source Connector," select the "Excel (OleDB)" item from the Vendor drop down menu. The "Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0 (*.xlsx, *.xlsb, *.xlsm)" option should now be available in the Provider drop down menu.
